Talking Points for your letter:

We in the community support the replacement option for the Memorial Bridge

  • The Memorial Bridge links the heart of two of the oldest cities in the country
  • It is a critical life line for commerce within the Seacoast
  • It is part of Historic US Route 1
  • Losing it would create job loss and set back the last 10 years of development in both communities
  • It is a link in the Eastern Trail and the East Coast Greenway

We do not want the Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge

  • It will cause traffic headaches in both Kittery and Portsmouth
  • It will result in a 4 Lane SML Bridge, resulting in taking property in both Kittery and Portsmouth
  • It will result in as much as 20% decline in business in Kittery
  • It will result in as much as 17% decline in business in Portsmouth
  • It will set back the last decade of development of both municipalities
  • The bicycle community is opposed to the bicycle pedestrian bridge

We want an open and transparent Connections Study Process

  • We in the community have participated
  • We want our input to be considered
  • We want the dealings between the States in the open
  • We want the process to move quickly to a conclusion
  • We want both states to agree on the outcome

We favor Maine's acceptance of the offer from New Hampshire to finance Maine's portion of the Memoral Bridge replacement.

  • It allows Maine to go through its own funding process on its own schedule
  • It preserves the option to do whatever the outcome is of the Connections Study
